Common food allergens
Most of the health experts opine that there are few real food allergies that affect not more than 2% of the adult population. Few people are there who think they have food allergy but actually they have food intolerance.
Food intolerances create the same types discomfort signs like food allergies that include bloating, cramping, gas and diarrhea.
So the person should be sure enough whether he is really having food allergies or not. These are the common reasons listed below that form food allergies in humans and account for almost 90% of them.
1. Peanuts
Peanut is a healthy choice to add to a diet. In reality it has a great capacity to induce allergy. People having severe allergies can have a reaction only by having a little amount of peanut kernel. Peanut butter should also be avoided.
2. Tree nuts
Walnuts with other kinds of tree nuts, for example pecans, filberts, pistachios, cashews, almonds, Brazil nuts, etc., also come under the list of foods that are the most allergenic. When a person has allergy to one real nut variety, it is probable that he is also allergic to others, except peanuts, as they are legumes.
3. Shellfish
As an allergen though shrimp gets more noticed but a variety of shellfish can form an allergic reaction also. It includes other types of crustaceans like prawns, crabs and lobsters, and mollusks like octopus, squid, clams, scallops, oysters, mussels and snails.
4. Finfish
The proteins in fish are more susceptible to heat and other forms of preparation in comparison to most of the factors causing food allergies. So people who has allergy to fresh cooked fish can easily eat the canned version.
5. Milk
Allergic reactions to milk in most cases are lactose intolerance that actual allergies. It is the less amount of the digestive enzyme lactase that initiates cramping, bloating and other abdominal signs.
Many people who have lactose intolerance can drink small amounts of milk. Though people having true milk allergy can go through dangerous problems with any consumptions of milk or milk related proteins.
6. Tofu
Tofu is a dangerous allergen to children; even some adults react to it as well. It is made from soy.
7. Wheat
People having signs of allergy to wheat products actually have allergy to grain. Its better to visit a doctor a get diagnosed. Few people have celiac disease, an unusual situation that results due to intolerance to gluten. It is found not only in wheat but also in rye, barley, and oats.
Hence one should be careful about the common food allergies, as he or she may not be aware of the allergic reactions to these foods he or she may have.
